At the close of today, there will be approximately 78 hours before the start of two-a-day practices for most high school football teams here in the state, and fans can’t be more excited right now especially over in Wortham, where the Bulldogs look to surprise a lot of folks.
In District 11-2A Division II, Wortham is predicted by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine to finish fifth in the six-team district this season, but according to Bulldog head coach Chris Tobola, his players know they’re now a fifth-place team going in.
“Our kids know we’re better than that,” said Tobola. “Out of the 32 guys on our roster, at least 25 have been coming out and putting in extra work all summer long. Most of these kids have jobs, but they’re dedicated and want to win and have been willing to put in the extra work.”
The Bulldogs have five offensive and four defensive starters coming back from last season’s 4-6 team and will be stout on the offensive and defensive front this season. The Bulldogs are loaded at running back with Stephon Ester and Kemontrell Jackson.
