For younger Mexia students whose families are wondering how they will be able to afford the many school supplies they need to buy before school starts, relief has arrived.
A school supply giveaway for parents and guardians of pre-k through sixth grade Mexia students will be held at the Mexia Junior High School cafetoreum on Saturday, Aug. 12, 9-11 a.m. – and just in time before school starts Thursday, Aug. 17.
Mexia businesses, churches and organizations have been working for weeks to buy the supplies. Admission is free, and those attending will find the cafetoreum filled with friendly volunteers manning tables offering almost everything their students need. Organizers will verify the children are Mexia students by checking their names against school rosters.
Jason Ellis, a teacher, local pastor and also director of the event, expressed pleasure at having obtained all the supplies requested.
