Mexia High School’s Blackcat marching band trekked 10 miles through downtown Mexia Saturday to raise money for their upcoming trip to Branson.
Approximately 45 students and some parents, too, met at the school at 7 a.m., leaving shortly thereafter on a route that took them up and down many Mexia streets, first from the school to downtown, then back and forth for a while before stopping at the city park to rest and drink water.
They continued on the route and ended up at H-E-B, where the grocery store provided more cold water and also bananas for the students.
“It’s a fundraiser for us,” said band director Conrad Flusche. “I think the people in town enjoy it. We’re continuing a tradition now. We’ve done it every year since I’ve been here.”
