Blackcat fans brave the heat Team exceeding expectations

Friday was reminiscent to an NFL training camp - maybe slightly exaggerated - with fans braving the heat at both ends of the Mexia Blackcats practice field to watch this year’s team put on the pads for the first time this summer.
Some were in the make-shift stand at the north-end, with a canopy shielding them from the sun’s rays, others braved the heat on the tailgates of their trucks and yet a few more came prepared with tents and coolers filled with bottled water.
The coaches were fired up, the kids hustled and put in the hard work at each station with an overall mentality of “One more time, one more rep,” one part of the philosophy that head coach Frank Sandoval and his staff are teaching the athletes this season.
“The first day I thought was phenomenal,” Sandoval exclaimed. “We felt the kids wanted to please us and that’s a battle we feel we’re in the process of winning. Second day we got off 30 more plays than we did Monday as a team. That told me two things, kids are trying harder and they’re understanding what we’re asking of them.”
