County to vote on new tax rate

Limestone County commissioners court plans to discuss and propose the 2017-18 fiscal year tax rate at its meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
The court will also make decisions concerning the new term of election judges; approve several agreements with other entities on jail inmate housing and medical care; and address some issues on infrastructure and personnel matters.
Regarding the tax rate, if the rate is higher than the effective tax rate, the court would need to schedule public hearings; but comments by court members at recent meetings indicate they will stay at or below the effective tax rate. The effective tax rate is the rate that would produce the same amount of funds as last year’s rate, which was $0.7622.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting the court plans to determine the length of term for the county election judges and begin appointing presiding and alternate judges in each precinct for the 2017-19 election term.
