LC residents take boats, supplies to hurricane victims

Limestone County area residents are responding to calls for help from people and authorities in the Houston area, which was still being drenched Monday by record rainfall associated with Hurricane Harvey.
One group is Lone Star Cowboy Church of Limestone County, which has asked people to bring disaster relief supplies to their arena that the pastor and others will take to Rockport since they have contacts there; also because initial reports are that the city is almost a total loss. The church is located on US 84 about two and a half miles west of Mexia, and the initial collection event was to take place Monday, Aug. 28, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Since the disaster and its effects are expected to continue for weeks if not months, the church will continue to accept supplies, even after Monday.
Suggested items requested included diapers, personal hygiene supplies, water, nonperishable foods, tire repair kits and flashlights.
“Please bring rain gear, shovels and food to the church,” the church posted to its Facebook page.
