Steele’s Creek, Rocky Creek bridges to be replaced by TxDOT

Drivers near Thornton will likely be glad to learn that two old, nearly worn out wooden bridges are slated to be replaced.
The commissioners approved replacement of the two bridges at their Aug. 8 meeting from a proposal that the Texas Department of Transportation submitted to the county.
One of the bridges spans Steele’s Creek at LCR 723, and the other crosses Rocky Creek at LCR 786. Both bridges are south of Thornton.
Commissioner Pct. 1 John McCarver, who conducted the meeting since County Judge Daniel Burkeen was at a conference, noted that both bridges are large.
