Hurricane-displaced inmates coming to Limestone prison

Limestone County has received well over 100 inmates from around Houston after severe flooding in the wake of Hurricane Harvey impacted that area. Close to another hundred could join them if the county can finish repairs on one more building at Limestone County Detention Center, the county-owned prison.
The item was added to the agenda of the Aug. 29 meeting on an emergency basis, and commissioners court approved taking immediate steps to make the repairs.
The court heard a report from County Judge Daniel Burkeen and Sheriff Dennis Wilson on the matter.
“F Building has some issues that we had delayed the fixing of in the control system, the intercom system, because we didn’t have a demand for it at the time,” Burkeen said. “Well, now we need those beds; that’s close to another hundred beds.”
