Local church feeding hurricane evacuees

Some Hurricane Harvey evacuees are staying in Mexia hotels and getting fed by at least one local church.
Camino de Salvacion Church, which is in the former theater at the corner of Palestine and Sherman streets in Mexia, has been serving lunch and dinner at their church daily for about 50 evacuees to help them with their expenses. The church also has clothing and hygiene product donations available for the evacuees.
Church member and volunteer Aide Mota said Thursday that some of the evacuees are staying at the Best Western Hotel and others at the Comfort Inn. They report their home towns as Bay City, Katy, Cypress and Lake Jackson, she said.
“We’ve been serving food since Day 1,” Mota said. “We feel so glad to be able to help them. That way they don’t have to spend the money they have on eating out.”
