‘Where I started’

There’s a new officer in town, actually, he has been here all along, just with another department. Officer Gary Gipson, Mexia native, MISD Class of 1989, was sworn in to the Mexia Police Department on Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. City Secretary Christi Shivers sworn him in with Sgt. Brain Bell there to put on the badge.
“Brian and I are classmates. We both graduated from high school together,” said Gispson.
Gipson joined the US Marines after high school and served four years active duty. His first tour of duty was with Charlie Company 1st Battalion and finished with 2nd Battalion Charlie Company in North Carolina. Gipson said, “I was security force during my first tour in the Philippine providing security for the U.S. Naval Base Subic Bay.
