A summary of Limestone County commissioners court’s Aug. 29 meeting
One of the more significant votes at Limestone County commissioners court’s Aug. 29 meeting was to agree upon the date, time and place of the new fiscal year’s tax rate adoption, the budget adoption and a public hearing on both. Those activities will take place on Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. in the county courtroom of the courthouse, where commissioners court meeting are always held.
Also at the Aug. 29 meeting, the court accepted a donation for the Fairgrounds, recognized county employees for reaching milestones in years of service, and made a variety of other decisions before holding a budget workshop.
With each budget workshop, changes to the budget work out to a slightly lower or higher tax rate. After the Aug. 29 meeting, a large portion of which included a budget workshop, County Judge Daniel Burkeen said that the final tax rate should be just under $0.7800. He and the commissioners have all agreed that they want to keep the rate below the effective tax rate, which is the rate that would produce the same amount of revenue as last year. This year’s effective tax rate is $0.8063. Last year’s actual tax rate was $0.7622.
