Mexia News Staff Report

Opening day of the Texas High School Football season was a success, despite some schools being affected by the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
For the Wortham Bulldogs, things couldn’t have gone much better as they fought their way to a 29-16 win over the Itasca Wampus Cats at home.
The Bulldogs scored first, taking a 6-0 lead in the opening quarter and holding it into the second until Itasca moved ahead 8-6.
That would be the score going into halftime, however, Wortham returned to the field fired up and ready for action, scoring 15 points in the third quarter to push ahead by 13, 21-8.
