It took four sets to do it, but the Mexia Ladycats managed to hold off host Blooming Grove Tuesday evening, 25-20, 25-18, 22-25, 25-15, for their third win in the last seven days.
“We needed this game to fill a spot,” said Randy Barger, Mexia’s head volleyball coach, after being off since Friday and not scheduled to play again until next Tuesday night.
After taking a 2-0 lead in the match, the Ladycats dropped their guard a little, which allowed the Lady Lions to pull off a three-point win.
The final set started off the way the third set ended, but after trailing by only a couple of points at the start of the game, coach Randy Barger’s team returned to their earlier form and emerged from the deficit to take the lead for good the rest of the way.
