Both Mexia sub-varsity football teams moved to 2-0 on the season after the freshmen shutout Normangee’s junior varsity team last Thursday on the road, 42-0, and the Blackcat JV team defeated Teague at Lions Stadium, 28-8.
Trey Holdman earned Player of the Game honors from the Mexia freshmen coaching staff after his outstanding performance in the Normangee game. Holdman finished with a rushing touchdown, caught a pass for another touchdown and had an interception return for yet another TD.
Teammate B.J. Sunday contributed to the win with a rushing touchdown and passed for another, connecting with Blackcat receiver Christian Clark.
Jarrell Wylie rounded out the touchdown frenzy with one on the ground.
Defensively, the Blackcats came up with two turnovers, a fumble recovery by Brian Lara and Wylie’s interception.
