Mexia XC teams adapted, executed: Boy’s XC team takes second

After the cancellation of the Regional Preview Meet in Huntsville this past weekend, the Mexia Blackcats cross country team had to find another meet to compete in.
Coach Britney Dietz was able to get the team entered in the Grapeland Meet and the crimson and black returned home with great results.
The varsity boys team finished second out of 26 teams invited to the meet.
Diego Rivera finished second out of 112 runners, setting another personal best with a time of 16.56, Angel Escamilla placed eighth and Lalo Ortiz finished 10th and also set a new personal best.
Joining in the varsity team success were fellow runners Kataryess Griffin, Johnathan Flores, Isaac Mendez, Danny Prado (setting a new personal best record).
Juan Hernandez had a good finish, coming in seventh and Kevin Garcia stepped over the finish line in 11th place.
For the girl’s team, Macie Martinez took second place overall.
Selena Buentello placed 15th and Nicole Hernandez finished 19th.
The team will be back in action this coming weekend at the Teague Meet.
