VFW honors missing military with table ceremony

Mexia’s VFW Lancaster Post 4694 performed a POW-MIA table ceremony Saturday, Sept. 16, to honor and respect prisoners of war and those missing in action.
Since the Vietnam war, the custom of setting a single table to remember POWs and MIAs has become common, and Mexia’s VFW has one set virtually at all times.
While Post Commander Lamar Evans described the different parts of the ceremony, various VFW members, almost all from Mexia, brought forward those items to set on a small table.
The table was round, symbolizing the everlasting concern that those left behind have for the POW-MIA.
The chair was empty, symbolizing the fact that the beloved POW-MIA is not present.
