What a weekend it was!
The Mexia Blackcats picked up their first win of the season under new head coach Frank Sandoval, and in the process, brought back the Battle of the River trophy to Mexia High School. This week, the Blackcats take on the Waco La Vega Pirates in Bellmead.
Across the county line in Wortham, head coach Chris Tobola led the Bulldogs to their third consecutive win of the season to remain unbeaten through the first three games. However, they lost their top running back, Stephon Ester, to injury in the fourth quarter and he will be out this week as the team plays Dawson. We wish Ester a speedy recovery.
Over in Coolidge, the coach Wayne Ware and the Yellowjackets team welcomed back Jordan Brown to their lineup. Brown had missed the first two games of the season with an injury, but in returning last Friday night, he helped lead Coolidge to a huge 54-6 win over the Trinidad Trojans. This week, the Yellowjackets return to the road to face the Oakwood Panthers.
Check out who’s where this week from Class 4A on down to Class 1A, 6-Man teams.
