Local author and Navarro College professor Dr. Anna Kantor’s children’s book The Kantorbury Tails was performed as a play last Friday, Sept. 22, for Mexia’s younger students.
Kantor, head of Navarro’s English Department, published The Kantorbury Tails in 2016. In cooperation with Navarro College Theater Department Chair Dr. Shellie O’Neal, Kantor wrote a script for a play version of her book called Kantorbury Tails – Live.
The book is based on Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, which describes various characters traveling together on a pilgrimage in England in the late 1300s. In The Kantorbuy Tails, the action takes place in lyrical prose, like Chaucer’s story, but the characters are cute dogs, each with a distinctive personality. Also, the stories focus on lessons in positive character traits or behavior for children to learn.
Since most children are intrigued by the idea of talking animals, Kantorbury Tails – Live was a big hit with the elementary school children.
