If the No. 6 ranked volleyball Fairfield team in Class 4A had any intension of stepping on the court at Mexia High School and blowing out the unranked Ladycats, well, let’s just say they left a little shocked, even though they ended up winning the district match in five sets, 17-25, 25-14, 20-25, 25-22, 15-7.
Mexia came out matching the Lady Eagles blow-for-blow, with each team surviving seven lead changes before the mid-way mark in the first set.
With the score tied 11-11, Baileah Thompson served up an ace to break the tie and put Mexia in front. The Ladycats went on to score the next three points to take a 15-11 lead and forcing Fairfield to call a timeout.
