Week 7 Preview: Defense will be key in opening district games

Week 7 the slates are technically wiped clean for District 9-4A DII as all six teams have finished up their non-district schedule, had a little time off to recoup and are now ready to begin conference play this Friday night.
The Mexia Blackcats open district play against the Lorena Leopards on the road, Fairfield travels to Salado and Waco Connally visits Robinson. The Wortham Bulldogs will host the Timpson Bears as district play begins for 11-2A DII and in six-man football, Coolidge has the night off before starting district play next Friday night, Oct. 13.
Here’s a look at some of the area games taking place this Friday night.

District 9-4A DII
Mexia Blackcats (2-3) vs. Lorena Leopards (1-4)
Place: Leopard Field in Lorena
Kickoff: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
2016 results: The Leopards won over the Blackcats last year, 42-14.
Returning starters: Mexia (N/A); Lorena (12)
Last playoff appearance: Mexia (2015) Area finalist: Lorena (2016) Area finalist.
