Great start to the playoffs for the Coolidge Lady Yellowjackets, sweeping up an area win against the Oglesby Lady Tigers, 25-15, 25-8, 25-17, moving to the regional quarterfinals where they were scheduled to face the Bartlett Lady Bulldogs Monday evening in Robinson.
In Thursday evenings match, Coolidge got off to a sluggish start and found themselves down early in the first set when Oglesby’s Paige Melton laid down a kill to give the Lady Tigers the 14-10 advantage.
“That’s a common thing for us this year,” head coach William Milton explained. “We always kind of come out slow, but they always find a way to respond and luckily it ended up on our side.”
Respond they did, as the Lady Yellowjackets caught a break the next point to cut their deficit to three, and that’s when Erika Samaniego took charge to serve up three points - including two aces - to tie the set at 14-14.
