Big food drive is this Friday

The people of Limestone County will collect non-perishable food items this Friday, Nov. 17, to help their neighbors who otherwise might go hungry.
The occasion is the annual Food for Families food drive, a project to restock food pantries as winter begins and the holidays approach.
Mexia-area residents, churches, businesses and organizations will work together from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day to donate food at the Caritas food pantry, 111 N. Paris Street in Mexia. All items donated to Caritas will stay at that food pantry, which benefits county residents who live north of the Navasota River.
Caritas board President Andrew Taulton urges anyone who can help to take part in the effort. He said the need for food has increased in the wake of several major business closings.
