Freshman Mexia Blackcats end season undefeated in district play

The freshmen Mexia Blackcats football team capped off their phenomenal season by beating the Robinson Rocket frosh last Thursday, 32-12, to finish the year undefeated in district play and captured the district crown in the process.
Jarrell Wylie has been the workhorse out of the backfield on offense all season for the Blackcats and Thursday’s game was no different for him, as he added to his touchdown total with four more against the Rockets. Konnor McNeil got in on the scoring with a two-point conversion.
Le’Marion Miller was named Defensive MVP in the game, intercepting two passes and returning one of them for a touchdown. Teammate Max Cervantes picked off a pass in the win as well.
Recapping the season, the team opened with a 26-0 shutout over the Athens Hornets freshman team. Wylie scored a touchdown on the very first offensive play. B.J. Sunday threw two touchdown passes, one to Christian Clark and the other to Miller. Freddie Greer recovered a fumble and both Wylie and JaBryan Busby came up with interceptions in the game.
In Week 2, the Blackcats scored a 42-0 win over the Normangee Junior Varsity. In the game, Trey Holdman scored a rushing TD and caught a pass for another, Sunday ran for a score and passed for a touchdown, Clark caught a TD pass, Wylie scored a touchdown and picked off a pass on defense and Brian Lara recovered a fumble.
