Hard work, perseverance and lots of heart. That combination, along with instilling a winning attitude among his players, has paid off for first year Mexia Blackcat head football coach Frank Sandoval and his staff this season. Sandoval and his staff have turned around a program that mustered up only two wins a year ago and missed the playoffs, to 5-5 this season and the No. 2 seed heading into this Friday night’s bi-district playoff game with the Gonzalez Apaches in Georgetown.
“I’m proud of the coaches,” exclaimed Sandoval. “They’ve done a phenomenal job and it’s been fun watching them on a daily basis.”
From Day 1, the coaches have put in tireless hours in teaching and working with this young Blackcat team, instilling a “can-do” attitude, which has transpired into - through lots of hard work - championship habits and it has shown through the course of the season, especially the past two games with Fairfield and Robinson. Mexia has built up quite the momentum and are confident they can go deep in the playoffs over the next few weeks.
These young men have endured a lot throughout the season, but when they’ve had their backs against the wall, have managed to overcome any obstacles in front of them and have found ways to win.
