After finishing 1-2 in pool play of the Jane Biltz Tournament in Corsicana Thursday and Friday, the Mexia Ladycats fought back to finish out the tourney as the Silver Bracket champs with a convincing, 72-36, thrashing of the Joshua Lady Owls.
The Ladycats hit the floor with purpose, keeping Joshua on their heels with man-to-man, full court pressure defense that resulted in steals and turnovers for easy baskets at the other end.
Mexia led by 15 at the half, 30-15, then exploded for 20 points in the third period to lead by 24 before closing out with the 36-point win.
Keiana Keith led Mexia with 16, Camrye Smith joined her in double-digit points with 11 and both De’Modesty Williams and Oasis Keener sank 10 each. Precious Daily and Destini Hutchison scored eight apiece, Treece Daily hit five and Tiesha Jones worked hard inside the paint for four points.
“Playing five games in three days, it helps us condition-wise,” said Mexia head coach Randy Barger. “It kind of shows us where we are and all the little things we need to work on.”
