Mexia Blackcats are Bi-District Champions

The dream season continues for the Mexia Blackcats, after picking up the bi-district win last Friday night in Georgetown over the Gonzales Apaches, 30-7.
With the win, Mexia moves on to the area round of the Class 4A football playoffs and will face the West Orange-Stark Mustangs at Conroe’s Buddy Moorehead Stadium this Friday night at 7 p.m.
Not since former Mexia head football coach Craig Harris, back in 1999, has a new coach and coaching staff taken a Blackcat team with two or less wins the previous season and turned them into a playoff contender.
The new regime - under the guidance of first year Blackcat athletic director/head football coach Frank Sandoval - began the task of turning around the Mexia program back in the spring of this year, with the core of the coaches coming from Cedar Hill, most of whom served under former Longhorn coach Joey McGuire - currently on the coaching staff at Baylor University - who led the Longhorns to three state championships during his 14-years with the school.
