Five years ago: Mexia Ladycats basketball state title

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Mexia Ladycats basketball program’s run to the state championship title.
At the end of the road that 2012-13 season, their trip to the Class 3A final four is still talked about today and will be the topic of conversations for years to come.
Heading into the season, you just knew this was a special group of athletes and you could feel that something big was on the horizon.
After all, many of them had been playing together since they first started youth basketball and by the time they were preteens and teens, they were winning Little Dribbler national championships. Three of them.
But the next step would be to win a championship at the high school level.
For seniors Ariel Ballard, Kendall Gipson, Amy Johnson, Gabrielle Greer, Mariyah Wiley, Ashley Johnson, Yaz Gamble, Brechelle Beachum, Tiara Ray and Brandi Jones, this was their last chance to make that happen.
There were still a couple of missing ingredients, though.
