Mexia did not disappoint fans

The 2017 football season may have come to a close last Friday night for the Mexia Blackcats, but the crimson and black put up a good fight against two-time defending Class 4A state champion, West Orange-Stark, before falling to the Mustangs 17-3 in the area playoff game played at Buddy Moorhead Stadium in Conroe.
Mexia’s defense held WOS to their lowest offensive point total since their Sept. 26, 2015 game, when they lost to Foster, 42-14.
Up until Friday night, the Mustangs were averaging 47 points per game since that loss and had shutout their last three opponents.
The Blackcats were the underdog coming in, although many felt an upset could be in the making, especially the way Mexia has played during their last three ball games.
The game was a defensive struggle at the start, however, the Mustangs managed to come away with a touchdown early in the first quarter, when quarterback Chaka Watson scored on a 16-yard rushing play.
