Prince Campbell scored 19 and Chris Mathews poured in 17 as the crimson and black defeated the Academy Bees Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the Bumble Bee Classic.
Campbell - a transfer from New Orleans - dominated the Bees in the first period of play, scoring Mexia’s first 10 points of the game as the Blackcats led 10-0 early on.
It was an all-around scoring effort in the period by the Blackcats as Travion Carter connected on a pair of three-points, Mathews adding six-points and both Ty Gamble and Jaden Proctor hitting a bucket each as Mexia led 26-10 at the close.
Head coach Andre Latouche allowed his bench a lot of playing time in the second period, in which the Blackcats closed out the half with a comfortable 36-22 lead.
Campbell and Mathews were at it again in the third, combining for 13 of the Blackcats points in the quarter, pushing Mexia’s lead to 51-34.
