The long-awaited return home finally took place Tuesday evening at Blackcat Gym, as the No. 24-ranked Mexia Blackcats played their first home game of the 2017-18 basketball season to a stacked house full of fans.
Mexia hosted the Corsicana Tigers and didn’t disappoint the home crowd as they added win No. 19 to their season total with the 59-50 victory.
The win wasn’t easy for the Crimson and Black.
Head Coach Andre Latouche had no idea how tough these Tigers would be until they got on the court for warm-ups.
“After looking at how big they were, yes,” Latouche said. “They were going to be tough. But my guys are resilient. We go up against big teams all the time. Everybody looks at us as being so small, but we’re quick, we get up and down the court and our guys knew from the jump they were going to run. This is what this team is about. We’re going to run and gun, even when a team decides to go into a zone against us, we know how to break it down.”
