After dropping a close district game to Dawson Friday, Jan. 5, the Wortham Lady Bulldogs bounced back with a huge 55-20 win over the Riesel Lady Indians on Tuesday, Jan. 9, at home.
The game was close in the first quarter with Wortham taking an 8-4 lead, but the Blue and White turned up the heat in the second, outscoring the Lady Indians 17-6 to increase their lead by the half to 15, 25-10.
Wortham kept its foot on the gas in the third, finishing the period with 19 while holding Riesel to just four, thanks in part to 10 points from point guard Hallie Fautt and a three-point basket from forward Jayde Hamilton to give the Lady Bulldogs a 44-14 advantage heading into the fourth.
Wortham closed out the game with 11 points in the final period of play, getting a three-pointer from Phillips, who finished with four in the win as the Lady Bulldogs left the gym with the 35-point win.
Fautt and Phillips were the team’s leading scorers in the game, both finishing with 18 apiece. Ashley Mao contributed with eight, Hamilton sank five and three players, Spring Hogan, Kayla Lansford and Katilyn Cartwright all finished with two each.
