Mexia powerlifters throw weight around at Cameron

Last Saturday, the sound of clanking barbells and coaches shouting encouragement to get their athletes pumped up could be heard loud and clear inside the gym at Cameron High School, as the Mexia Blackcats and Ladycats competed in their first powerlifting meet of the season under new coach Dustin Maddox.
The Ladycats finished fifth overall out of 14 schools competing, with Nicole Hernandez getting off to a great start as she finished in first-place in the 105-pound weight class. Iris Valenzuela placed third in the 114-weight class and Jamie Comer took second in the 198-weight class.
Also competing for Mexia was Demona Carrol in the 132, Jayda Gray in the 148, Ashton Langley in the 165, Hope Goodrich in the 181 and Tashundra Reeves in the 259-weight class.
