With a playoff spot on the line Friday night, Feb. 2, the Wortham Lady Bulldogs chimed in with a 43-27 win over the Riesel Lady Indians on the road, putting them in a tie for second place with the Axtell Lady Longhorns in District 18-2A with one more game remaining.
Mart, which defeated Axtell 34-27 on Friday night, has finished its district schedule with a record of 7-5.
Wortham could lay claim to the No. 2 seed if they beat Bremond at home tonight and Hubbard defeats Axtell at home. If both Wortham and Axtell fall, that will put both teams into a three-way tie for second-place with Mart and could force a playoff, depending on the district’s tie-breaker ruling.
In Friday night’s win, the score was close after one-period of play with the Lady Bulldogs on top 8-5. In the second period, Riesel outscored Wortham 12-9 to tie the game at 17 heading into the half.
The Lady Bulldogs stepped up their game on offense and defense in the third, outscoring the Lady Indians 17-4, to retake the advantage going into the fourth period with the score 34-21.
