Ladycats building on successful softball season

The Mexia Ladycats have returned to the softball diamond, expecting bigger and better things to come this upcoming season.
Last year, the Ladycats had one of their best finishes with a 13-9-2 overall record and finished third in District 18-4A with a record of 4-4, under the guidance of coach Keith Vest. Vest was named Co-District Coach of the Year last season.
Mexia ended the 2017 as a bi-district finalist.
The team returns everyone, except for the three seniors that graduated, so look for a higher finish in the district standings this year, especially with pitcher Erica Beldin back in the circle.
Beldin, a junior this year, was 12-7 with an ERA of 3.75 last season, striking out 131 batters and made second-team all-district as a pitcher.
The Ladycats may have lost the bat of Priscilla Garcia (Class of 2017), but don’t underestimate this team’s hitting ability with another year of experience gained.
