Jesse Jewel “Jay” SimmonsJesse Jewel “Jay” Simmons, 87, of Dallas, passed away Feb. 5, 2018, at Medical City Dallas Hospital. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. in the Wortham Cemetery.
Jay was born Oct. 15, 1930, in Wortham, to Dean and Mary Adelaid Weaver Breedlove. She spent many summers in Wortham with her grandparents while growing up, and she attended Navarro College. It was in Wortham that she met her future husband, and where she made many life-long friends. Jay was a talented artist, and her paintings, needlework and holiday ornaments are examples of her creative spirit. Jay will be remembered for her warm heart, tremendous generosity, special sense of humor and her unfailing ability to speak her mind.
Jay was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Franklin P. Simmons Jr., and her son, Thomas Randall “Randy” Simmons. She is survived by her granddaughter, Jordan Nichole Simmons; niece, Sherry Little and husband Robert; sister-in-laws Nancy Benfer and husband Bill, Cynthia Gage and husband Bob, and Karla Friedman and husband Joe; niece Patti Ellis and husband David; nephew Paul Benfer and wife Kristen; daughter-in-law Stacy Simmons; cousins Mary Jane McReynolds, Brad McReynolds and wife Sarah, Mike McReynolds and wife Denise; Loya Palmer and husband Buz; and many other cousins; special friend Wilma Goodin and caregivers Ruby Kelley, Obie Umeakuana and Damaris Marineau.
