The Mexia Blackcats scored five runs in the second inning and eight more in the third to eventually take a 14-7 road win over Tuesday over the Rio Vista Eagles.
With both teams knotted at 0 after one inning of play, the Blackcats’ offense went to work in the top of the second.
J.R. Deichler got things started with a leadoff single to right field.
The next batter, Travion Carter, ran the count to 3-2 before getting on base with a walk, moving pinch runner Abisai Canizales over to second. Canizales and Carter moved up a base on a wild pitch, but Canizales managed to score on the same play and Carter advanced to third.
Carter came in on a sacrifice fly to center by B.J. Sunday to make it 2-0 Mexia.
Evan Harrison reached on an error by the third baseman, then Jaden Proctor singled to right, followed by Jordan Hullum getting on board via an error by the Eagles centerfielder that loaded the bases.
