Ladycats head into district play after 15-5 loss

The Mexia Ladycats played at home Friday night, finishing up their non-district schedule against the Alvarado Lady Indians. After leading 3-2 at the end of one, Alvarado outscored the Ladycats 13-2, to take a 15-5 win in seven innings.
The Lady Indians started things off with two runs in the top of the first, taking the early 2-0 lead.
Mexia’s Jenny Williams led off the inning, cracking a line drive double to the center field fence. After she easily stole third, Baileah Thompson beat out an infield hit for a RBI single as Thompson came in. Erica Beldin followed with a base hit to right, then one out later, Tashundra Reeves drove in Thompson with the RBI double to center.
With the score tied 2-2 and Kiana Mora (pinch-running for Beldin) at third and Reeves at second, Ashton Langley made it to first on an infield single as Mora scored on the play to give the Ladycats the one-run lead.
Alvarado moved back ahead in the top of the second with four more runs to go up 6-3.
