By Stephen R. Farris
Mexia News Sports

The Mexia 7-on-7 football team had a pretty good outing, being their first trip ever to the Texas State 7-on-7 Championship held July 11-12 in Leander.

Mexia entered pool play on Thursday, playing three games against Houston Episcopal, Brownwood and Anna.

They ended up falling to Houston Episcopal, 48-12, then lost to Brownwood, 33-12, but came back in their final game of the day, defeating Anna, 37-25 which put them in the No. 3 slot and earned them a spot in the consolation round on Friday.

Mexia played Boyd in the first round of consolation and ended up on top 14-7 at the end of that game to continue their advance in the bracket.

Reeves named MVP at annual Victory Bowl

By Stephen R. Farris
Mexia News Sports
History was made over the weekend and two – now former – Mexia football players were heavily involved in making it happen.
Mexia’s Broderick Reeves set a new rushing record for the FCA Super Centex Victory Bowl by gaining 123-yards on six carries, including a 71-yard touchdown yard that put the Blue team up for good in the second quarter en route to a 35-21 win over the Red team Saturday night at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco.
Down 10-7, Fairfield’s Andre Welch helped set up the go ahead touchdown with a nice return.
Reeves, the lone running back in the backfield with Robinson quarterback Carson Earp, took a handoff and found a big hole in the left side of the line.
Avoiding two Red team defenders out in the flat, Reeves aimed towards the sideline and turned on the jets all the way to the end zone, bringing the crowd of around 1,000 to life at that point in the game.
