Hospice supporters get inspiration to carry on

Mexia’s Providence Hospice held its second annual Life’s Hope Luncheon to encourage hospice well-wishers to continue to support their mission of easing the situation of people facing their end of life.
The event took place at Joe Friday’s Party Room at the noon hour and featured inspirational speakers who told how hospice care influenced them, either when a loved one was preparing to die or as they worked with hospice patients directly.
Providence nurse Jacinda Allen set the tone for the day by reading a quote from Cecily Saunders, the founder of modern-day hospice:
“You matter because you are you,” she said of those about to die. “You matter to the last moment of your life, and we will do all we can not only to help you die peacefully, but also to live until you die. To live until death, not merely exist in pain and or isolation, but to live as fully as possible.”
