The Mexia Blackcats put together an impressive drive late in the fourth quarter, getting all the way down to the Waco La Vega six-yard line, but numerous penalty calls on both sides of the ball and the Pirate defense managed to end the crimson and black’s chances of scoring as time ran out.
Final score, Waco La Vega 53, Mexia 7.
The final quarter drive did have Mexia fans excited on a couple of plays.
After a holding call pushed the Blackcats back to the La Vega 39, Josh Beachum – running out of the Wildcat formation – took the snap, turned the corner at the near-sideline and skirted down the field and into the end zone. However, the referee back around the 25 said he had stepped out-of-bounds there and the TD was negated.
