Friday afternoon turned into a battle of the ‘cats, between Mexia and visiting Palestine.
Mexia ended up overcoming some early mistakes and setbacks to win their district opening match over host Palestine in four sets, 23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-21.
Mexia jumped out to a 15-8 lead midway in the first set, but the front rotation for Palestine pounded the ball hard for some impressive kills to go on a 12-1 run as they took a 20-16 lead.
The crimson and black managed to comeback late in the set to tie it at 23-23, but the maroon and black got the next two points for the win.
The second set of the match began sluggishly for Mexia as they trailed by three at the start.
