National Night Out coming next Tuesday

Mexia area residents are invited to come out to meet local and area law enforcement officers on National Night Out, which is Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Mexia City Park.
The free event runs 6-9 p.m. and many fun activities are planned for all ages, especially young people. This is the third consecutive year for holding National Night Out in Mexia, though two other such events were held before that.
According to Mexia Police Officer Sgt. Brian Bell, who has been organizing the event, the goal is to develop the relationship between Mexia’s police officers and the community.
Bell spoke to the Rotary Club of Mexia about what is planned for the event.
“Our goal at the police department, especially this last couple of years and moving forward, is to bring the community and police department closer and closer together,” Bell said. “The law enforcement agency, regardless of what level it is, local, county or state, will absolutely fail unless they have a real relationship with the community. That’s all about communication, and that’s what National Night Out is about. It’s about the community being exposed to law enforcement.”
