Mexia dominates second half over Caldwell

The rain held off long enough for Mexia to name Friday night’s homecoming queen and for the Blackcats to pick up a 35-12 win over the Caldwell Hornets.
The Blackcats scored the only touchdowns of the second half, the first coming in the third quarter when quarterback Travion Carter scooted down the Mexia sideline from 28 yards away. Lalo Ortiz added the extra-point kick to give the Blackcats the 16-point advantage at 28-12 with 4:16 remaining on the clock.
Late in the fourth, running back Jadrian Smith found a seam in the Caldwell defense for a 49-yard TD with 2:44 left to play in the game.
The score stood the rest of the way as the crimson and black defense took over, holding off any attempt by Caldwell to score.
The game got off to what seemed like a great start for the Blackcats as they kicked off to Caldwell, but Tyreon Williams managed to run under the opening of the ball to give Mexia the offensive possession.
