Mexia falls to Connally late in the fourth

Penalties seemed to rule the night during the Mexia Blackcats 16-8 loss to district rival, Waco Connally.
Mexia took an early 2-0 lead in the first quarter, stopping Waco Connally’s quarterback from getting out of the end zone for the defensive safety.
The Blackcats had a chance to score a short time later, but couldn’t punch the ball in against the stiff Cadet defense.
Early in the second quarter, Mexia’s Ty Gamble recovered a fumble deep in Connally’s end of the field, picking up the ball and running it in for the score, but the extra-point attempt failed and the Blackcats settled for the 8-0 lead.
