McKinney reaping benefits

A Mexia woman who founded a singing group to minister to those in a Mexia nursing home 25 years ago is benefiting from that same group since she is now living at the nursing home herself.
It was back around 1992 that Mildred McKinney heard of some residents at The Manor nursing home on Hwy. 171 in Mexia who were lonely and depressed.
“I had a friend, Louise Gatlin, from Point Enterprise ,” McKinney said. “We went to the same church and she said, ‘If you’ll just go and read the Bible…’ So that’s how I started, just reading the Bible. Then some friends from the church came and played the piano and sang; we stayed for 45 minutes at least.”
McKinney immediately began going to The Manor weekly. When she looks back, she is still moved by seeing the effect the ministering had on the residents.
