The Coolidge Yellowjackets used their bye week to regain focus as they played their best overall game of the year with a 56-0 win on the road at Gholson. Coolidge coach Wayne Ware was impressed with his team’s defensive effort and was glad to see Junior Roman Benjamin return after a leg injury.
The Yellowjackets improved their record to 5-2 and remained undefeated in district. Coolidge received the opening kick and sophomore running back Torrey Hoover displayed his speed and vision on a 45-yard touchdown run to give the Yellowjackets an early 6-0 lead.
The wildcats squandered their first possession when they fumbled the ball with Coolidge recovering and scoring again on a 22-yard TD pass from Hoover to Benjamin. Roderick Busby was successful on the conversion kick to give Coolidge an early 14-0 lead. The Coolidge defense was the catalyst for an explosion of scoring the rest of the first half as they continually came up with stops and turnovers.
