The Mexia Blackcats will be represented again this year at the state cross-country meet in Round Rock, as Macie Martinez finished fourth in the Class 4A girls regionals Monday afternoon at Kate Barr-Ross Park in Huntsville, completing the race with a time of 12:26.5.
Martinez was only 12.3 seconds behind front-runner Kaytlyn Kuta, from Huffman Hargrave, who finished first with a time of 12:13.2.
Mexia coach Britney Dietz told Martinez before the race to go, “run her race and run your heart out!”
The Mexia boys finished No. 13 out of the 22 teams competing at the regional meet, two places ahead of district rival Fairfield.
