Mexia residents who would like to express gratitude to active duty service members as well as to veterans will want to attend Mexia Downtown’s An Evening on Main: Celebration of Thankfulness Saluting Our Veterans.”
The event is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Mexia Civic Center. Activities planned include live music, patriotic rock painting, coloring, writing notes of appreciation to active duty service members, face painting and a bounce house. Veterans groups will also make presentations, and Mexia-based Boy Scout Troop No. 70 will demonstrate flag etiquette.
“At this Thanksgiving season, and with Veterans Day falling on a Saturday, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to reflect on everything that’s happened in our country, and how much our military, servicemen, first responders, police, firefighters – everything – how much they do for our country and for our community,” said Mexia Downtown President Mitzi Eves.
Admission is one canned food item to benefit Helping Hands, a ministry of several Mexia groups and individuals that provides food boxes to low-income families for the Christmas holidays.
