Week 13 preview: Same four taking it to the next level

We’re down to two Limestone County teams left in the 2017 Texas High School football playoffs, the Mexia Blackcats and the Coolidge Yellowjackets.
Both teams will face big-time opponents this Friday night. Mexia takes on four-time state champion West Orange-Stark Mustangs and the Yellowjackets take on the Union Hill Bulldogs, a team that was a state semifinalist last season.
In the bi-district round last week, Mexia demolished the Gonzales Apaches, 30-7, with the offense clicking away and the defense coming up with big stops and forcing turnovers in the win. West Orange-Stark won their bi-district contest over the Royal Falcons, 54-0. Coolidge turned up the offense to outlast a tough Avalon Eagle team, winning that game by the score of 89-63. The Bulldogs defeated Fannindel by mercy rule, 56-6.
On a side note, last season all four playoff teams from District 9-4A DII bowed out in the bi-district round. Last Friday night, all four recorded impressive victories to make it to the area round this weekend.
