During the Thanksgiving holiday week there was plenty of hoop action for a lot of area high school basketball teams.
Hitting the court before the big “Turkey Day” celebration was the Wortham Lady Bulldogs, who took to the road to visit the other bird mascot that became one of our nation’s most famous icons, the Lady Eagles of Mildred.
Wortham kept the Lady Eagles grounded in the opening period, outscoring the maroon and white 17-4 on the sure-shooting of point guard Hallie Fautt, who finished with eight points in the quarter, along with a two-point bucket by Jayde Hamilton and a three-point basket. Ashley Mao sank four points in the opening frame.
The pace slowed in the second with the Lady Bulldogs still outscoring Mildred, 6-4, to take a 23-8 advantage into the locker room at the half.
